The fleet 76'ers decided to go-for-it after surveying the strong southerly and the whitecaps at 5 o'clock. It was blowing 18-20 at the bridge with a beginning ebb. Conditions looked nasty. Scott Rovanpera jumped in with Scott Olson - self-naming themselves the "Flying Scott's".
At 6:15 all 5 boats were ready to race and the conditions had normalized to a nice 12-18 knots for the rest of what turned out to be a warm, sunny evening. 7 races were held with all contenders finishing every race. Courses 1,1,4,4,1,1,3.
The ebb steadily increased through the evening causing a few over-earlies. Nearly all contenders won a race with Nick/Sarah finishing strong in the end.
I was told this was the first time Big Red was used this season. With the exception of the Operator (me) not giving it enough throttle when first starting, Big Red ran well, held air in the tanks, etc.
Even though the evening started out looking cold and windy, it turned out to be very pleasant racing with lots of light at the end.
