BYC 2015 One Design Series Day #7 at BeniciaMay 15
Story
PRO=Dean w/ assistant Jack and guests Peggy, Zach, and Jamie (no, not that Jamie).
Lots of breeze, lots chop, 2 boats capsized, many near capsizes, and 5 races. Chris T. was steady and consistent with no breakdowns or swims and came away with the victory! Marcel's mast rake was out of whack and he had a sail malfunction, Hans forgot to wear his seatbelt and had his ejection seat activate twice, Rich/Blake stayed upright and consistent throughout, while Scott/Dana, Josh, and Chris G. survived to battle another night. It was pretty wild with the UPRR bridge sensor registering 20+mph. Courses were 1,4,1,4,1. The windward mark offset may have helped a bit with the separation up top, but mostly seemed to make for challenging high speed roundings that tested boat handling and skipper/crew coordination. The 2 downwind finishes seemed to work well in the breeze since separation was maintained. Downwind finishes in light wind tend to bunch everyone up an awful lot.
(Tip of the week: release the boom vang before trying to right the boat. Easier said than done with the extra purchase we put on them and when your crew might not know what a vang is! The boats just can't seem to relax and go head to wind when the vang is cranked.)
Here's hoping for a mellow night next week!
And go Warriors!
