BYC 2015 One Design Series Day #5 at BeniciaMay 1
Story
PRO=Jeff Cody
Five boats sailed week 5 with 10-15knots wind out of the west sprinkled with a few brief shifts 30 degrees to the south. Welcoming our newly joined sailors on a warm night, Chris and Mike, were treated with relatively flat waters and a solid Ebb on their first official race night. This will be as nice as it gets until the fall boys!

There was a good mix of close and wide open finishes with Hans, Chris and Dean taking bullets with Chris/Scott taking 3 of 5 races. Sailing was aggressive at the start with three of the five races having individual recalls despite the ebb. Race two, the Three Buoy Fiasco, had racers chasing a drifting weather mark ignoring both the offset mark and fixed buoy. This was the better alternative to just round any upwind buoy you like then add an offset. Coming into the race 4 finish against Chris/Scott after a starboard foul by Rich, he quickly demonstrated last years 360 penalty turn after the finish line to earn a DSQ (see rule below). 720 penalties on the course in 2015!

44.2 Two-Turns Penalty
After getting well clear of other boats as soon after the incident as possible, a boat takes a Two-Turns Penalty by promptly making two turns in the same direction, including two tacks and two gybes. When a boat takes the penalty at or near the finishing line, she shall sail completely to the course side of the line before finishing.
