Summer Sailstice at Encinal Yacht ClubJune 21
Story
Encinal Yacht club holds small boat racing one Saturday each month throughout the year, show up, pay $10 cash, drop the boats and go. Saturday morning, Marcel & Sophia, Drake Cody and Mia Sloane, Dean and Andrew, and Murphy and myself caravanned down for the Summer Sailstice. We were joined by 3 other V15’s from EYC and 1 from Fleet 53. The RC set a standard course 1, about a mile long right in front of the club west of the Coast Guard Island.

The RC gave us 5 races, and made course adjustments as the wind was light, shifty, crappy, then light, then fairly OK. The racing was relaxed and fun, all 8 boats were on the line at the gun for each race, and it was a pretty close group each race. Marcel duked it out half the races with Dean and the 53 boat, I had to deal with Drake and Mia every step of the way. As the races went on, they kept getting faster and a bit more tricky. They were also quick to throw the protest, so be warned.

Fleet 76 took spots 2-5, Marcel, Drake, Dean, Murphy for the day. It was great sailing with a 60lb 9 year old, he doesn’t hike like his mother, but he made up for it with his smile.

Halfway into the first race Josh and Sweet PeA came cruising down the water with music and some hot chicks to entertain us between races.

Great live music by the pool afterward, well worth the drive. So if anyone is looking for a change of scenery, with a more protected sailing venue, the EYC small boat days are great.
