BYC 2014 One Design Series Day #4 at BeniciaApril 25
Story

RC=Read
Races started on time, 3 in total before being abandoned for wind, cold, dark, pending squalls, and stuck-in-mud rescue.

Dean and Chris duked it out for first place honors. Starts were clean, as the line was long and the vestigial ebb didn't suck anyone over early. Winds were gusty but consistent, direction-wise. No protests filed and several boats opted to not race and return to dock. Wisely so.
Windspeed from 5-20 with multiple capsizes.

Motor performed flawlessly. (Dave Stickney was right al along: "DON'T SQUEEZE the BULB unless all else has failed, and even then, ONLY until LIGHT resistance is felt").
RC (Read) got annoyed that, after calling the races, several boats still sailed around for a while out in the straights, apparently waiting for the rain-squall-line, obviously coming our way, to hit. It did, and more capsizes eventuated. Not good for the RC to have to consider from a half mile away, while trying to extricate a mud-stuck boat with crew in water for long time--even if that crew was Gus, the in-water-toughest one of us all. By far.
Point being, if any of the more experienced (less likely to get in trouble themselves) sailors want to hang out--after races are called--in a rescue area to offer help, or observations, or advice, or moral support, as needed, they will ALWAYS be welcomed by me. But, otherwise get your asses out of harms-way and back to the dock if the races are called. RC's have enough to worry about...especially if the uh "adventurers" don't even have wetsuits on and it's still April.

BR is too slow and non-wave-worthy to handle multiple rescues distances apart, on a rough night. And as the years pass our odds get worse.

Nick has the scores, the box is in BR, and I'm going to make a bridle for BR this week, and get a a loooong floating tow rope. (Which would have gotten Gus out of the mud and back up sailing, post haste!).
